LD-Focused Strategies:
Multisensory instruction (graphic organizers, dictation, scaffolding, and assistive technology) to ensure accessibility and success for students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, and ADHD.
An example of a student’s agenda which was focused on developing a specific grammar skill and beginning a research paper.
Connect: To begin, I meet with the young writers to identify their strengths and areas for growth. We spend time getting to know each other as authors and creators. I will also engage with families to collect information about the student’s current writing goals and learn of any assessments or evaluations that have been completed before.
Write: Next, we will set up a time to meet (sessions are typically one hour/once a week) to strengthen, craft, and revise the student’s writing. Lessons will be specifically designed to help highlight their strengths and nourish their growth areas.
Celebrate: Young writers can participate in various writing contests and publications to bring public acknowledgement to their unique work. I will also communicate with families often to share learning plans, lesson objectives, and session progress.
